Abstract

|
최근 귀농인구 증가와 청년들이 농업에 대한 관심이 높아지면서 이제 농촌은 빈곤의 상징이 아닌 스마트 기술을 활용한 창업 기지로 인식되면서, 도시 직장의 삭막함에서 벗어 날 수 있는 새로운 탈출구가 되고 있다. 이제 농촌마을은 과거 농경사회의 전형에서 벗어나 젊은 농부들을 중심으로 신기술을 활용한 농업 선진화가 가속화 되고 있다. 우리의 삶의 변화는 급속한 산업 성장 속도와 비례하면서 양적 풍요는 얻었지만, 사람들은 무한 경쟁 속으로 내몰리면서 육체적 피로와 정신적 상실감이 그 어느 때 보다 크다고 전문가들은 말한다. 이러한 정신적, 육체적 피로감을 해소하기 위해 자신의 취미생활과 사람들과의 커뮤니티를 통해 지속적 유대감을 형성하면서 일상을 유지하고 있지만, 이미 각계는 도시민들에 대한 일상적인 고민에 대해 많은 문제점을 제기하고 있다. 여기에 대중 매체인 영화는 관객들에게 일상에 지친 정신적 피로를 일시적이지만 다양한 기능으로 해소하여 행복감을 제공하는 역할을 하고 있다. 영화관에서 영화를 보는 관객들은 관람을 하는 동안 자신의 문제로 부터 한 걸음 뒤로 하고 자신의 현재 삶을 조망함으로써 자신이 가지고 있는 불안, 분노, 불만 등의 부정적인 감정을 극복할 수 있도록 도움을 준다고 한다. 본고는 이러한 관점에서 영화가 시각적으로 관객들에게 ‘힐링’(healing)을 제공하는지에 대해 영화<리틀 포레스트>에 등장하는 농촌마을을 대상으로 힐링 요소를 분석하였다. 또 본고는 오늘을 살아가는 이 시대의 젊은이들이 주인공 혜원의 태도 변화에 대해 어떠한 감정으로 관조할 수 있는지에 서술하였으며, 여기에는 감독의 연출의도도 포함되어 있다. 동 영화는 사람이 무엇으로 사는가? 삶의 행복은 무엇이지? 라는 질문도 제시하면서 농촌이라는 영화적 공간에서 펼쳐지는 주인공 혜원의 심신 변화를 묘사하여 관객들에게 치유적인 감정을 제공한다. 그래서 신이 인간에게 제공한 자연을 대하는 태도와 또 우리는 어떻게 살아야 행복할 것인지에 대해서도 서술한다. 감독은 어린 시절 시골생활에 대한 경험과 현재 자신이 전원생활을 하면서 얻게 된 행복감을 영화에 담고자 하였다고 한다. 본고는 감독의 인터뷰를 바탕으로 영화적 농촌 공간이 시각적으로 제공하는 힐링 요소를 분석하였다.

Lately there has been an increase not only in the number of back-to-the-farm population but also in the interest in farming by the young generation. Farming area is no longer the symbol of poverty. It is now the base camp for utilizing the smart technology as well as the new escapeway from the desolate city life. Though people have enjoyed the material affluence because of the rapid industrial growth, they also confess their physical and mental fatigue due to the infinite competition they face with everyday. In order to lessen the fatigue they enjoy hobbies and continue their bond with others. But it is true the city people are faced with many problems. Cinema as a mass media provides the worn-out people with a temporary liberation from their fatigue. The audience in the movie theaters step back from their problems, contemplate their life, and overcome those negative feelings such as anxiety, anger and dissatisfaction. By investigating the visual elements in the farming village of , this study tries to prove provides the movie audience with ‘healing’. Making the audience contemplate the attitude change of the lead character Hye-won, the director of the movie asks the audience what actually is important in life and what happiness means to them. This contemplation not only evokes the sense of healing in the mind of the audience but also gives them the new awareness on how they should live with the nature and what really brings them happiness. The director states the movie is a reflection of the happiness she enjoys now in her life in the countryside as well as the happiness she had during her childhood in the rural area. Based upon the interview with the director, this study analyzes how the movie provide the audience with healing through the visual elements of farming village as the cinematic space.
