Abstract

The purpose of this study was to find out the relationship between inpatients nursing service satisfaction and their desire to rechoose of hospital.
The subjects for the study were 246 inpatients over 16 years old who had been hospitalized for three days and were expected to be discharged after one more day. They ,~7ere selected from one tertiary general hospital in Seoul during the period from Feb. 15 1 Feb. 28, 1997.
Data were collected from the subjects using a questionnaires which consisted of the i latient satisfaction scale developed by La-Monica et al. in 1986: The scale consists of 40 items covering three subscales ; technical-professional area, trusting relationship area and educational area.
Data were analyzed by the SPSS computer program using percentages, means, t-test, \nova, Pearson Correlation Coefficient, stepwise multiple regression.

The results of this study were as follows
1. The average degree of inpatients satisfaction was 3.9151. The highest levels of -atisfaction in the three areas of nursing were first, technical-professional with 3.9706,
econd, trusting with 3.9335 and third, educational with 3.8412.
?. In all areas of nursing activity, the satisfaction degree showed a significant difference vcording to the demographic characteristics of age, marital status, religion, education and income, and the admission related characteristics, such as the department to which the
patient was admitted and the source from which admission fee was paid.
There was no statistical difference between gender, experience of self-hospitalization and period of hospitalization.
3. Patient¢¥s nursing service satisfaction of all nursing areas showed significant positivf., correlation with desire to rechoose hospital. And stepwise multiple regression analysis revealed that the most powerful predictor of desire to rechoose hospital was trusting nursing area. A combination of trusting, educational and technical-professional nursing area accounted for 42.4% of the variance in desire to rechoose hospital.

In conclusion, patients nursing service satisfaction was related to a desire to rechoosc, hospital. Especially, area of trusting was statistically significant. So nurses should recognize the patient¢¥s trusting needs and provide educational information by communicating closely with the patients.
The hospitals have to understand the patients demand through service evaluation, and to apply to hospital management. Especially, if they emphasize the items which had high relationship with rechoose, it will further improve efficiency in hospital management.
